We urge all disciples of the Lord to be baptised in obedience to the Lord's teaching and example.
BFEC Baptism classes for those aged 12 years and above (also known as Membership 101 Classes) are conducted twice a year prior to each baptism service (held on Easter Sunday & another in December). The dates and commencement of such classes will be announced in the Church Bulletin and can be obtained from the Church Office.
Our Church practises the baptism of believers normally by full immersion. Believers seeking baptism should note the following for the conduct of baptisms.
Preparation for Baptism
REGISTER: All candidates for baptism must be registered with the Church Office by completing an Application Form obtainable from the Church Office. Each application must be submitted with two recent passport-sized photographs.
JOIN A SMALL GROUP: Every member in BFEC is to be accounted for a 3C or Christ-Centered Cell Group. If you need any help, contact Francis Soh at the Church Office. Baptism implies membership in the Church and it is vital you have the fellowship of a 3C group as early as possible.
CLASSES: You would be informed of the schedule for baptismal class lessons. Please attend all lessons faithfully and punctually.
INTERVIEW FELLOWSHIP: After you have attended all the lessons, you will be interviewed by two Council members who will assess your readiness/suitability for baptism. You will then be advised whether to proceed with the baptism. If not, you may require further instruction or follow–up after the interview.
The Baptism Service
Cherish it as a special 'kairos' moment, one of affirmation from the Lord.
INVITE OTHERS: Pray to invite your family members and close friends to witness your baptism. Come at least 15 minutes before the service begins to prepare yourself and to enable the person in charge to give you a final briefing.
DRESS CODE: Dress appropriately for your baptism. Shorts, and T-shirts with inappropriate labels or slogans should not be worn. Ladies are to wear slacks and dark coloured blouses. Remember to bring along a towel and an extra set of dry clothes to change into after your baptism. Do not bring any valuables or wear any jewellery.
PHOTOGRAPHY: The Church will provide an official photographer so as to maintain proper decorum at the service. Photographs will be given to you with compliments of the Church.
After the Baptism
COMMENDATION: After the baptism, candidates will return to the Sanctuary to join in the service: you will be commended as new members, presented with a Bible and baptism certificate, and take a group photo.
LUNCH RECEPTION: There will normally be a reception where you, your cell members, friends and relatives will be able to have fellowship with one another, the Church leaders and other members. For catering purposes, do inform the Church Office of the numbers attending this lunch.
