Dear beloved,
Even as the world fears the consequences of a H1N1 pandemic, let us guard against widespread panic leading to pandemonium. Pray that the understandable fear would not result in senseless out-casting of victims of the virus like the way leprosy victims used to be. Whilst we remain confident in God and maintain our Christian witness and ministry, even getting ourselves READY at Christ’s RETURN, it is all the more pertinent that we show love and spur each other to see crisis as opportunities for us to be true and worthy salt and light as our Lord wants us to be. Meanwhile, we encourage each of us to take the following practical steps in love and consideration for others:
1. PRAYER MINISTRY
If any of us (or our family member) are diagnosed with the H1N1 virus or for that matter any illness, please let your cell leaders and our leadership know (by contacting Church Prayer Ministry chairperson, brother Letchumanan, at the church office, Tel: 64491418, or using the regular Response Form provided) so that we can mobilize prayer and offer any other suitable support. For example: help in buying of groceries and other necessities to tide over the quarantine period.
2. PERSONAL MEASURES
We can be personally and socially responsible to execute and complement measures advocated by the Health Ministry.
- Maintain personal hygiene habits and help those under our charge to do so, i.e.
- Regular hand-washing
- Self quarantine for those who have travelled to Influenza A (H1N1) affected countries during the past 7 days (excluding day of return). Presently, these countries include: USA, Mexico, Canada, UK, Spain, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Argentina, Panama, Philippines, Thailand, Dominican Republic, Hong Kong and Indonesia.
- Avoiding crowded places
- Avoid visiting the sick without wearing a mask so as to prevent mutual infection
- Check our body temperature before we leave home. If anyone is having a flu symptoms or fever (>37.5C), it is certainly wiser to stay home to recuperate, as well as prevent further infection. (If above 37.6C, the current indicative temperature for possible Influenza A infection, then seek medical attention as prescribed by the authorities)
It is not wrong to take sensible precautions even as we trust God and serve one another in love. As we watch and pray over this current hot topic, together with others in Singapore and beyond, let us continue to trust in God for His protection and healing even as we encourage and pray for one another the assurances of Psalm 91.
In His Love, Elders Board, BFEC
