About BKK

Our Kindergarten

Bethesda Katong Kindergarten (BKK) is registered with the Ministry of education and is open to children of all nationalities and religions in the 3 to 6 age group.

Our facilities include 11 classrooms made conducive for learning. Each class is approximately 530 square feet with stimulating learning centres. There are two playgrounds, with sand and water play areas. In addition, an air-conditioned Computer Room, Music Room, Speech and Drama Room, Mandarin Language Room and Assembly Halls are available.

History
Bethesda (Katong) Kindergarten started at Jalan Pipit (now Dunbar Walk) in 1953. We had 20 students then, aged from 4 to 6, who registered for our nursery and pre-primary programmes.  As the kindergarten grew significantly both in quality of education and enrolment, new premises were required and in 1955, the foundation stone for a one-storey kindergarten building in La Salle Street was laid.

The kindergarten moved to the present site on August 1955 when the building was constructed. As the brethren worshipping at La Salle Street felt the need for a proper church hall for church meetings, a new 3-storey building was completed at a cost of $100,000 in 1964. That helped to alleviate some of the space constraints that the kindergarten was facing then. Soon, our intake increased further and an extension to the ground floor was erected.

When Bethesda (Frankel Estate) church took over the administration and running of the kindergarten from Bethesda (Katong) in 1996, the board decided to upgrade the premises. Classrooms and outdoor facilities were improved, additional music cum assembly rooms, and computers were added to provide a more conducive learning environment for the children.

Today we offer classes in 2 sessions from Pre-Nursery to K2 and our enrolment stands at more than 380 students.

All Glory and Praise to God for His countless blessings to us.

The quality of time spent at kindergarten is crucial to future success in school. The years of early development establish the foundations for learning emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually.

Young children begin learning in a variety of environments before they enter kindergarten - in their homes, in playgroup programmes and in the community. They bring varied levels of knowledge to any learning situation based on their environment.
