Introduction – The story of an almost non-story!

Q: Where does a mighty Judge-cum-Prophet spring from?

A: From a mother, who out of a D_________, turns into a D_________, brings forth a D_________ that results in a D_________!

 

1. Does Obedience really matter?

"Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams" (1 Sam 15: 22).

 

2. Does Honour really matter?

" .. for those who honour Me, I will honour; they who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed. (1 Sam 2:30)

 

3. Does External Appearance really matter?

".. for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart." (1 Sam 16:7)

 

Conclusion – We serve the God who owes no one anything but pays back f_______!

"And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The Lord give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the Lord."

(1 Sam 2:20)

 

Questions:

1. Think back over what would have been a "non-story" in your life. Yet God graciously brought to life and to pass: a child;

a job; a promotion; a house, etc. Thank Him.

2. How does an oyster produce a pearl? Similarly, how does God use pain, grief, disappointment, provocation, insult, even

seeming injustice to bring out a lovely pearl to grace your family and life?

3. What do Obedience and Honour have in common? Is it possible to have one without the other?

4. When God looks beyond your external appearance into your heart, what does He find?
