Eating with Christ

Topic: "Eating with Christ"

Service: 8 - 9.30am and 10 - 11.45am

Scripture: 1 Cor 10:1-33

Speaker: Elder Melville Szto

This chapter can be divided into two main sections, with two clear themes, one a warning and the other an exhortation.

I. Be careful you do not fall (v. 12)

"So if you think you are standing firm, be careful you don't fall." The warnings of Scripture are to be taken seriously. You get

hurt when you fall. Paul cites the negative example of the people of Israel. They received great blessings (note the 5 'all's in

verses 1-5), but failed in 4 major areas (verses 6-10). What were the 4 sins of the Israelites?

II. How do we avoid falling? (v. 11-13)

When we face temptations or encounter trials we must remember 3 things:

1. Temptations are _____________ to us all.

2. God does not allow us to be tempted __________ what we can bear.

3. He provides us the ___________ to cope with temptation.

III. Idol feasts and the Lord's Supper (v. 14-21)

Why is it wrong to take part in idol feasts?

When might it be right to eat food that has been offered to idols and why?

IV Do everything for the glory of God (10:22-11:1)

Two important spiritual principles that must guide the Christian's behavior are:

1. "Nobody should seek _______________ good but the good of __________."

2. "Whatever you do, do it all for ____________________________."

'Eating with Christ' speaks of our fellowship and relationship with Christ. This relationship is always damaged both by personal

sin and by wrong attitudes and behavior to others.
