Service: 8 - 9.30am and 10 - 11.45am

Scripture: 1 Cor 11: 2-34

Speaker: Elder Melville Szto

I. Honoring God in our Public Worship (v 2-16)

Paul addresses the issue of our proper attire for public worship and introduces several vexing issues which we must look at. We must first recognize that what was appropriate for 1st century AD Greece is different from what is appropriate for 21st century Singapore. What is important is to uncover the spiritual principles behind the specific instructions given here. We must distinguish what is culturally right and wrong from what is morally right and wrong.

II. Headship and questions of equality and inequality

In addition to the two spiritual principles already given in 1 Cor. 10:24 & 1 Cor. 10:31, we need to add another, Eph. 5:21.

What are these 3 principles?

1. _________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. _________________________________________________________________________________________________

3. _________________________________________________________________________________________________

III. Dishonoring God by dishonoring the church, the Body of Christ (v. 17-21)

Two sins of the church at Corinth that Paul identifies here are:

1. ________________________________ among believers (v. 18)

2. _______________________________ the church of God (v. 21)

IV, Discerning the Lord's Body when we celebrate the Lord's Supper (v.22-34)

Review the meaning of the Lord's Supper. Can we see a past, a present and a future element in v. 26?

What does Paul mean by "eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord"? How should we examine ourselves before we partake of the Lord's Supper?
