Scripture Text: Acts 8:26-40

The story of the Ethiopian eunuch’s conversion recorded in Acts 8:26-40 is probably familiar to us, but have we thought about the process that God used to bring this man to salvation. There are three distinct parts in the process and the man’s response is an important fourth part.

1. The part played by the Holy Spirit

a. The prior work of the Holy Spirit in the Ethiopian (v. 27-28)

b. The directing of the messenger Philip (v. 26, 29)

2. The part played by man, the messenger Philip

a. The obedience to the prompting of the Spirit (v. 27, 29)

b. The preaching of Christ (v. 30, 35)

3. The part played by the Scriptures

a. The thirst created by the reading of the Scriptures (v. 30, 32-33)

b. The need for someone to interpret the Scriptures (v. 31, 34)

4. The part played by the new believer

a. The recognition of the need for baptism (v. 36-38)

b. The proof of conversion (v. 39)

Question: Who are the ‘Ethiopians’ in our nation that God is calling you and I to reach with the gospel? Have you felt the prompting of the Holy Spirit to go to some particular person?
