The Senior Sunday School’s (SSS) main objective is to provide Christian Education to young people between 13 and 19 years of age. It also aims to foster an environment in which Christian values are not just taught but modelled. It organises activities in which students can express their youthful energies in a wholesome manner.
Weekly Sunday School classes are held from 11.30 am to 1.15 pm in the Chapel. Typically, each teacher teaches one class, though some are assisted by co-teachers who share the workload. Other than Sunday class times, teachers spend informal, unstructured and personal time with their students by having occasional outings with them or by visiting their homes. A committee of teachers headed by a Superintendent oversees the administration of this ministry.
The students are grouped generally by age into classes of 5 to 10 people. A Student Committee represents the student populace, and it consists of three sub-committees: Fellowship, Worship and Infogram. The weekly Bible lessons are preceded by a time of corporate worship. Apart from the regular Sunday meetings, social activities like: interesting telematches, ball games, mini-camps, Annual Camps and other seasonal activities, musician training, and other wholesome Christian youth activities are also organisd. The Infogram is the SSS newsletter produced by the Student Committee, serves not only as a channel of communication but also provides good literary experience for interested students.
The Student Committee plays a major role in the SSS in creating a stimulating and colourful environment for SSS students. Leadership and discipleship principles are practised by leaving the students to run the weekly and other programmes of the SSS under the general supervision of the teachers. |
