This ministry is the Church Programme for the Elderly.
The name of this ministry is inspired by Psalm 92:14, its "operational formula" derives from Jeremiah 17:7-8. The group's founding chairman, the late Elder Fred Sabapathy, has set for its members a personal example and challenge to promote the physical and spiritual health of the elderly members in the congregation and to encourage growth in dependency on our Lord rather then on man; striving not only to be less of a burden to others but to be more of blessing by their continuing fruitfulness in the Lord.
Notwithstanding its name and objectives, there is no minimum age requirement for joining the 9214 group, which meets every Sunday from 10-10.30am in Church. This time is mainly for reflection and sharing of insights gained from the Lord's message delivered during the first worship service. Every Monday from 7.30 - 8.30am, a doctor/nurse will be on duty to check blood pressure, take pulse rate and answer questions on elderly health issues, prior to a session of group callisthenics-cum-aerobics.
In celebration of the wonderful and abundant life which we enjoy in Christ, we hold joint birthday celebrations on the first week of every month and have coffee camaraderie on the first Monday of every month. Visiting places of spiritual or cultural interest, excursions to public parks in Singapore and across the causeway, conducting home visits and intercessory prayer, and attending specific health talks are some of our other activities. |
