The Young Adults Group was formed to meet the needs of young adults in a more structured approach and to train and build them up to serve. Started in January 2001 for the outgoing Senior Sunday School students, the Young Adults Group is open to all young people from 19 years of age onwards who are either in national service, polytechnic, university or working.
The Young Adults Group has the following focus-meet the specific needs and issues affecting this group of young people in our church today; and inculcate an attitude of service among the young and address the training and leadership needs of the church. Our motto is - Rooted in the Word to teach and serve others.
Weekly meetings are held every Sunday from 12.30 pm to 2 pm at the chapel. The programme includes worship (rostered among the young people), a speaker or group discussion covering Biblical teaching and beliefs, lifestyle and contemporary issues and other relevant topics. YAG members are formed into groups of about 8 to 10 with a guy and a girl leader for each group under the guidance of a mentor. Opportunities are given to members to share and learn new insights and the relevance of God in their daily lives.
Outside the formal meeting session on Sunday, the members interact and bond with each other through various activities. These include barbecue, cycling, bowling, other out-door, social and outreach activities.
While a committee of mentors and young leaders oversees the administration of the Young Adults Group, members are encouraged to lead in worship, share a testimony, lead and contribute towards group discussions, and organise various social activities. Our prayer is that they will all be grounded in God's word so that they will have a strong foundation in the years ahead. |
