SERVING OUR MIGRANT WORKERS
BFEC has earmarked 2 opportunities where you and I can volunteer to serve the migrant workers in Singapore
‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’Matthew 25:40
1) PROJECT PROVIDENCE
Project Providence is a crisis intervention alliance working in collaboration across organisations including churches, para-church organisations, and individuals with the capacity to serve migrant workers in Singapore affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. Many of these workers are faced with a very uncertain future including where to rest their heads.
What you will be doing:
Manning the Helpline for Migrant Workers –
provide callers with information regarding accommodation, finance, emotional support, and support that other NGOs provide
Befriend Migrant Workers –
be a friend, talk and listen.
Training will be provided.
You do not have to be a trained counsellor to volunteer with Project Providence.
What is the commitment?
Manning the helpline will be done remotely in your own home. The Helpline operates from 9am to 9pm daily and each volunteer mans the line on a 3-hour shift rotation.
You can choose to man the Helpline on slots convenient to you, like in the evenings or weekends.
How do I sign up?
Please contact email@example.com if you would like to volunteer in this capacity.
What if I know of Migrant Workers who need help?
You may ask the migrant workers to contact the Project Providence helpline at 87177559 between 9am to 9pm
33 “When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. 34 You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.Leviticus 19:33-34
2) CRISIS RELIEF ALLIANCE
Crisis Relief Alliance (CRA) needs volunteers with cars as well as those without cars to help with NON-CONTACT deliveries of essential stuff (ad-hoc meals, sanitisers, and other stuff when suppliers cannot provide delivery services) to migrant workers staying at factory-converted dorms in the Eastern zone of Singapore
As a volunteer, you will be given exemption similar to that of essential workers. CRA will provide an authorisation letter from the authorities.
How often are the deliveries?
The volunteers will be notified as and when there’s a demand. The leaders in charge of the Eastern zone will coordinate efforts among the volunteers.
What if I can’t carry heavy stuff but I can drive my car?
CRA will match volunteers to help. Those without cars but can carry stuff, with those who can drive but cannot carry stuff.
How do I sign up to be a volunteer?
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.Hebrews 13:1-2
