Sermon Series: Renew Our Love – 1 John

How can one be sure of his/her salvation in Christ & relationship with God? The apostle John gives us the answer in 1 John, the letter to his beloved congregation in Ephesus who were unsettled by false teachings about such matters. In his letter, the apostle reiterates the fundamentals of the faith to reassure his readers of their true fellowship with God. God is light & love & His children walk in His light & love, enabled by faith in the person & work of Jesus Christ, Son of God. As we heed the message of 1 John today, may it also transform us & deepen our knowledge & obedience of God, & our love for Him & one another.

April and May Pulpit Series (5-part): Fulfilling God’s End Times Missions

Jesus gave a very clear direction to his disciples on what they should be doing in missions – They were to go into all the world and to preach the good news to all creation (Mark 16:15). This was clearly understood as having to move into a foreign land and mixing with people of different cultures and ethnicity in order to present the gospel.

However today, with more and more people (even from minority groups) uprooting themselves and settling in major cities in a country other than their own, “missions at your door step” has become a buzzword along with social action. Many believers are ploughing into this and we have been seeing a downtrend in the numbers of missionaries being sent overseas. After all, isn’t it the best of both worlds, being able to obey the command to evangelise the world without having to leave the comfort of home?

The question that remains then, is whether Jesus’ command still valid for missions today? How will there be a great multitude that no-one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before God’s throne at the end days as foretold in Revelations 7:9? Would the great multitude include the many unreached people’s groups in the remote corners of the world, if God’s children remain in the comfort of their homes?

BFEC, like many other churches in Singapore, is experiencing a drought of new and younger missionaries willing to go into all the world and live cross culturally. This missions month, we will re-focus on what missions is about and introduce ways to help raise more labourers for the harvest field.

Pulpit Series #2: Ezra — A Restored Worship and A Reformed Life

The book of Ezra reveals the providential hand of God and his great mercy and faithfulness to Israel as they returned from exile and rebuilt the Jerusalem temple. Israel was also being rebuilt spiritually, being summoned anew to covenantal loyalty in faithful worship of God and obedience to his laws. Even as Ezra also shows us that Israel’s situation still fell far short of its full deliverance, the book’s focus on God’s faithfulness and the obedience and holiness required of his people speaks to us today as urgently as it did then.
