Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians

We acknowledge that the pre-school years are a critical period for the development of children. The quality of time spent at kindergarten is crucial to future success in school. They help build a foundation for our children’s future, their development in later school years and their contribution to building the society of the future. The years of early development establish the foundations for learning emotionally, socially, spiritually, physically and intellectually.

Young children begin learning in a variety of environments before they enter kindergarten  –  in their homes, in playgroup programs and in the community. They bring varied levels of knowledge to any learning situation based on their environment. When our program helps them to explore the world around them and guide them through the transition from home to school, they benefit greatly.  Over the years, we have made  refinements to our curriculum to meet the objective of nurturing a well-rounded development of our children.

We invite you to take a look at our website and find out more about our programme and visit us at our Kindergarten.

Testimonials

It is an honour for me to send my kids to the same kindergarten I attended in the 1980s, knowing very well the same excellent education and values I had the privilege to experience will continue to be imparted by the teachers and staff today, some of whom have dedicated many, many years to make this kindergarten what it is today – a place for our future generation to start life with a strong foundation and the correct values. Thanks Bethesda!

I remember especially an episode during the Covid fears. Alanna came home singing “I cast all my cares upon You” which her teacher has taught her. At that moment, tears came to my eyes.  As a frontliner, I have my own fears to face – for my patients, myself and my family. As Alanna sang, I wrote the lyrics of the song immediately.
“I cast all of my cares upon You
I lay all of my burdens down at your feet
And any time I don’t know what to do
I will cast all of my cares upon You”
The words lifted me up!  Thank you BKK for all the precious years.

Personally I find the programme in Bethesda enriching. As both my children love the Arts, the strong Arts programme in school has benefitted both of them.  The values imparted are positive and though we are not Christians, we appreciate the positive behavior encouraged by the school. Apart from that, what I love about the school is that the teachers are very caring and friendly. I am really touched by the warm gestures of the teachers to show they care when the children are sick. For example, calls are made and cards are given whenever Lea and Eli are not in school.

I too studied in BKK (as did my uncle, my two older children and my nephews) – and throughout the generations, the constant has been the absolute love and care shown by all the dedicated staff, with a strong personal touch just like that accorded to a family member.
Just an example - as parents are not allowed to be physically present for the graduation ceremony last year, BKK organised a live zoom session so parents can join in virtually and allowed the graduation robes to be brought home so that Kaira can excitedly take pictures with the whole family.

We are thankful for the love and care shown by the teachers. Many of the teachers have been around for years, some even when we ourselves were in BKK. That can only be through a love for the children. The warmth and care from the teachers are apparent from the way they greet every single child by name to how they create a safe and loving learning environment in the classroom.
At different times, we have placed our children in other early childhood education centres. While these other centres do a reasonable job of teaching and helping the child to learn and taking care of the child, we do not feel the same love and care for the children. While those teachers were nice and treat the children well, it felt more like a job they had to do. The teachers in BKK are different. We can sense the love they have for the children and what they do seem more a calling!

When we were sourcing for a preschool, apart from the academic curriculum, we were also looking for a centre that will mirror our values and develop our children’s character. BKK has done that and so much more! Our children have since graduated and grown to become students with confidence, mutual respect and a sense of responsibility towards the country, their schools, family, teachers, friends and their
academic work.
We could not have asked for more. We are so thankful to have made the right decision to enrol our children at BKK and remain grateful to the extraordinary teachers and staff. They never fail to go beyond themselves for the children!

Netanya looks forward to school each day. She would often find excuses to return to school (after dismissal) just to catch a glimpse of her teachers and begin another round of greetings and farewell. She adores her teachers because they are hands-on and warm. I am grateful to them for going the extra mile in providing a safe and fun environment for learning and growth. Yes, the programmes help a lot but it is the Principal and her teachers who make the differences!

As parents, we have observed that Nathanael was given many opportunities to help his teachers and classmates and that helped to build up his confidence to show empathy for friends in need and his willingness to help others. We saw how BKK teachers gave the children space to grow and nurture them at their own pace. We also like the way the teachers spoke gently yet firmly to the children, correctly them along the way and not pulling them down. To parents who are looking for a preschool for your children, do give BKK a try. It has a nurturing and enriching environment!

I am so glad that BKK took the opportunities presented by the pandemic to raise the awareness of what it means to be living in a time like this, in turn building up the social and mental resilience of the K2 children last year. I also appreciate how the teachers reminded the children of the promises of God and how in and through the pandemic, He will never forsake us. As a result, I found Olivia emerging stronger, more resilient, more empathetic in understanding why things are now done differently. All this contributed to such a smooth transition when she entered Primary 1. Not only did she settle very quickly to school, she was even asked by her teacher to encourage her other friends who were finding it difficult to adjust. Olivia even made a card to encourage her new friend in school.

Bethesda (Katong) Kindergarten has been a blessing to my family. We are thankful for the Christian love and values taught to our children. My eldest boy, Ian, graduated last year and still remembers fondly his time spent in the kindergarten.  The other day, he told me that he missed his school and teachers and would like to visit them as he has a school holiday. My younger boys are in the kindergarten now and enjoy school very much. I am always touched when I see the Principal, Ms Wee, greeting the children when they arrive. She even goes with them on field trips. I can see her passion, involvement and dedication for the children. Many of the teachers have been faithfully serving for many years and they are a great value to the school. My children have grown and learned much from the kindergarten. Thank you once again, Ms Wee, Sharon and all the teachers.
